"Good character growth is essential for all of us to encourage and promote in our children for the new millennium," states Board Supervisor Al Amaro. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to be one of four California counties that has been granted "Millennium Community" status by the White House in response to the initiation of this project." As a result of its new federal listing designed to preserve American tradition and history, promote the arts and humanities, and prepare children for the 21st century, Yuba County officials have received a "Millennium Community" designation that grants the County the right to promote itself with the "Millennium Community" logo and motto: "Honor the Past – Imagine the Future." The County has also received a certificate of recognition signed by Bill and Hillary Clinton along with an invitation to participate in recognition events hosted by the White House. The Millennium Community Program is a partnership between the White House Millennium Council, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and intergovernmental organizations like NACo. NACo represents nearly two thirds of the nation’s 3,068 county governments, including Yuba County. The organization encourages greater citizen participation in the county government process. In addition to county designations, states and cities are encouraged to apply for "Millennium Community" status consistent with a national theme, "Honor the Past –Imagine the future." The logo can be seen at Yuba County’s economic development web page, www.yubacounty.org. Additional information can be
