TO ONLINE NEWS Three Community Action Planning meetings were held in October and November, 2000 to provide assistance to the communities of Brownsville/Challenge, Dobbins/Oregon House, and Strawberry Valley to create specific planning visions for each area. See Brownsville/Challenge Community Action Planning activities. See Dobbins/Oregon House Community Action Planning activities. See Strawberry Valley Community Action Planning Activities. BACKGROUND:
In
October, 2000 the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation (YSEDC) and
Yuba County economic development office invited all residents in
northern Yuba County to two meetings to discuss Community Action Plans
(CAP). YSEDC and the
County have recently received a grant from the U.S. Forest Service to
provide communities in Northern Yuba County with the opportunity to
develop CAPs. A
community action plan provides a unique opportunity for local
residents and businesses to join together in a Community Planning
Committee to plan for the future of their community.
Committee members reach consensus on what they want for the
future of their community, and then decide upon specific actions to
help them realize that vision. These
introductory meetings took place on October 16th at the Ponderosa
Community Center, and October 19th at the Lake Francis Resort
clubhouse. The goal at these meetings and subsequent meetings in
November, 2000 was to
establish Community Action Planning Committees that will create a Plan that
reflect the vision of each community.
The County
and YSEDC is providing staff to facilitate the meeting process and to
write the Action Plans. If
you have any questions regarding the Community Action Planning
process, please contact James Connell at the YSEDC, (530) 751-8555, or
John Fleming at Yuba County, (530) 749-7558. |
