LOCAL REVOLVING LOAN FUNDS GROWING
State Awards $500,000 to Yuba County

The State of California, Department of Housing and Community Development, recently announced the award of $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to the County of Yuba for the purpose of economic development and job creation in continuing its participation in the Yuba-Sutter Revolving Loan Fund Program.

“This funding allows us to proactively assist Yuba County businesses,” said Supervisor Bill Simmons, Chairman of the Yuba County Board of Supervisors, “In turn, successful businesses increase employment within our community.”

A number of County departments worked in partnership to prepare the grant application. The Yuba County Planning Department expedited the grant application process by updating the County’s Housing Element portion of the General Plan. The Yuba County Office of Economic Development assisted the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in preparing the grant application document.  John Fleming, Yuba County Economic Development Coordinator, Mary Hansen, Airport and Enterprise Zone Manager, and Tim Johnson, Executive Director of the Yuba-Sutter EDC, are highly complimented for their partnership in development of the grant application.  The Yuba-Sutter EDC administers over $10.4 million in revolving loan funds on behalf of the City of Live Oak, the City of Yuba City and the counties of Sutter and Yuba.

“This means more jobs and a healthy business environment,” stated Supervisor Mary Jane Griego. A healthy revolving loan program helps our area retain and attract the business community we need to grow and provide adequate services.”

Grant funds are used to capitalize a Revolving Loan Fund within each jurisdiction.  Businesses who participate in this low interest loan program are required to retain or create at least one new job for every $35,000.00 they borrow.  A minimum of 51% of the jobs created in this program must also be made available to low to moderate income individuals.
