Yuba County Economic Profile Available Online
PG & E Grant Underwrites Effort

Yuba County recently launched an Economic and Demographic Profile section as part of its economic development website located at www.yubacounty.org. “With businesses emphasizing the need to research community backgrounds on the Internet, it was only a matter of time for us to ensure Yuba County is well represented online 24 hours a day,” commented Mary Hansen, Director of the Yuba-Sutter Enterprise Zone.

“Yuba County is a professional and friendly place to conduct business,” stated Bill Simmons, Chairman of the county board. “However, we can better illustrate this by providing the demographics and background information people need to make business and relocation decisions quickly.”

Yuba County’s new Economic and Demographic Profile was underwritten by a local Economic Development PG & E Grant Program and assembled by the Center for Economic Development, California State University Chico. The 2004 online Profile includes sections covering Demographics, Housing and Real Estate, Income and Sales, Labor Force, Education, Quality of Life, Transportation and Utilities, and Accommodations and Facilities. Each section is available for viewing or printing as a Microsoft Word, HTML, or PDF document.

“We greatly appreciate the assistance provided by PG & E to make this project possible and we will strive to keep the information fresh and current,” said John Fleming, Economic Development Coordinator. “In a fast-growth area, as Yuba County is becoming, the data is only as good as our effort to keep interested developers and businesses up to speed on the most current demographics. The 2000 Census couldn’t have predicted the phenomenal construction and permitting activity the County is currently experiencing.”

Fleming stated that next steps will include conducting a sales tax demand study to illustrate that some areas of the County are lacking in providing adequate retail and commercial development services. This report is expected to support the development of new retail centers to serve the East Linda and Plumas Lake Specific Plan areas.
