Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre Shares
Statewide Recognition with West Sacramento’s Raley Field

Nelson Chan Presents CALED “Award of Excellence”
Plaques to Yuba County

Yuba County’s Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre and West Sacramento’s Raley Field shared top recognition at the California Association of Local Economic Development (CALED) annual awards luncheon in Monterey April 12 by receiving CALED’s prestigious “Award of Excellence” plaques in the category of “Development Partnership.”

Nelson Chan, Director of the Sacramento regional Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency, was on hand in Marysville Tuesday morning, April 24, to present CALED’s “Award of Excellence” plaques to the Yuba County Board of Supervisors and the Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre. County board chairman Hal Stocker accepted the award on behalf of Yuba County.

“This kind of recognition puts Yuba County on the map,” stated Mr. Stocker as he received the plaque. The California Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency nominated Yuba County’s “Music in the Entertainment Triangle” Amphitheatre project to CALED for consideration in its 2000 Award for Excellence program.

“Two significant tourism-related projects in Northern California are represented in the successful construction and opening of the Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre and Raley Field,” said Yuba County Economic Development Coordinator John Fleming. “Both generate considerable interest and economic benefits for their respective areas and it is fitting that both received top recognition from CALED.” West Sacramento’s Raley Field received CALED’s “Grand Prize Winner” designation for its submittal in CALED’s “Development Partnership” category.
Yuba County’s “Music in the Entertainment Triangle” memorializes the relationship that formed between the County and the Motorplex partners in 1998 to create the Entertainment Zone resulting in the attraction, construction, and first successful Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre season starting June 10, 2000, with 26 significant acts including three sold-out shows. Yuba County native Lon Hatamiya, Secretary of the California Technology, Trade, and Commerce Agency, nominated the “Music in the Entertainment Triangle” submittal for consideration in CALED’s Awards for Excellence Program.

This award makes the second state recognition received for the amphitheatre partnership.  In 1999, the amphitheatre received a State Trade and Commerce Agency Zone Excellence Award for the “success story of the year.”  According to Mary Hansen, Zone Manager and also part of the economic development team that developed the award documents, “The Amphitheatre partnership continues through its relationship with the Yuba-Sutter One Stop agencies and the Enterprise Zone by providing hundreds of new jobs for the local community.  This partnership has resulted in not only new job opportunities, but significant tax credits for the Amphitheatre.”

CALED was organized in 1980 by a small number of state, local and federal economic developers to provide a forum for building a network of local economic development organizations in California. Today there are over 300 established economic development departments and agencies in the State.

Some of the first shows announced for the Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre’s 2001 season include Tom Petty, Rod Stewart, and Aerosmith. Updated concert schedules can be found online at www.sacvalleyamp.com.
