Yuba County's "Music in the Entertainment Triangle"
Receives State-Wide Recognition

Award of Excellence to be Presented in Monterey

Yuba County’s Office of Economic Development was notified by California Association of Local Economic Development (CALED) this week that the organization will be recognizing the County with a prestigious “Award of Excellence” for a package recently submitted, “Music in the Entertainment Triangle.” The award, in the form of a plaque, will be presented to Yuba County at CALED’s annual conference luncheon at the Monterey Marriott’s, April 12, 2001.

“Three Awards of Excellence will be presented to various jurisdictions throughout California in the category of Development Partnerships on the 12th,” states Economic Development Coordinator John Fleming, “and one of them will be given to Yuba County.” One of the three awards is considered the Grand Prize, but the recipient is not disclosed until the awards are formally announced at the luncheon. “Any one of the three Awards of Excellence that will be presented will greatly enhance Yuba County’s economic development presence throughout the state,” adds Fleming, “and give us the opportunity to market appropriately zoned properties that will complement the activities in the Entertainment Zone.”

“Music in the Entertainment Triangle” memorializes the relationship that formed between the County and the Motorplex partners in 1998 to develop the Entertainment Zone resulting in the attraction, construction and first successful Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre season in 2000 with 26 significant acts including three sold-out shows. Yuba County native Lon Hatimiya, Secretary of the California Technology, Trade, and Commerce Agency, nominated the “Music in the Entertainment Triangle” submittal for consideration in CALED’s Awards for Excellence Program.

The award package was jointly prepared by John Fleming and Mary Hansen, Airport and Enterprise Zone Manager, the county’s economic development team.  The presentation submitted followed the project construction from beginning to end, emphasizing the financial well being the project brings  to the Region.  The amphitheatre/raceway project was previously selected by the State Trade and Commerce Agency for the 1999 Success Story of the Year – Small City – under the Enterprise Zone Excellence Awards.

CALED was organized in 1980 by a small number of state, local and federal economic developers to provide a forum for building a network of local economic development organizations in California. Today there are over 300 established economic development departments and agencies in the State.
