Yuba County Serves as Economic
Development Ambassador to Japan

Economic Development Coordinator says “Sayonara”

As a result of the IMAX film Wild California release last year and Yuba County’s membership in the Northern California Industrial Development Executives Association (NorCal Idea), the county’s economic development coordinator was asked to assist in the screening of the film in Tokyo and Osaka the week of March 5, 2001.

The IMAX program is called “Taste of California Premiere Nights,” and has debuted in cities around the globe including London, Sydney, Paris, and most recently Munich, Germany. Businesses from in and around the selected cities are extended invitations to attend a premiere and an opportunity to meet with economic development and tourism professionals representing California, including members of the California Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency.

“It’s an honor for Yuba County and Economic Development Coordinator John Fleming to be selected for this trip,” said County Administrator Jan Christofferson. “John will be representing both Yuba County and the State of California during his visit. It’s also notable that Shoei Food, Inc. is a local company that is headquartered in Japan.”

“I would welcome a telephone call at (530) 749-7558 if you represent a business requesting a specific contact with a Japanese business or organization,” Fleming stated. “The purpose of this trip will be to encourage import/export opportunities, provide information for potential business expansions, and emphasize California as a significant tourism opportunity.”

All travel, food, and lodging costs associated with the trip will be paid through the “Taste of California” marketing program.
