Baseball returned to Bryant Field as the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox opened their season on May 24, 2002.  The team mascot -- a green, gold-footed gecko with a baseball glove strapped to its tail -- was chosen to appeal to children and families.  You can find crowds at the Gold Sox games annually every Thursday through Sunday evenings from the last weekend in May through the second weekend in August.

 Welcome Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox!

Baseball was big in Marysville and Yuba City in the 1930's into the 1950s. Residents would flock to watch the Marysville Giants at Bryant Field or the Bears at Gauche  Park on C Street in Yuba City.  From the old Trolley League at the turn of the century to the appearance of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig at the old Municipal Ballpark on Third Street to Jackie Robinson's coming to Bryant Field, baseball was the entertainment of choice for area residents.  By the mid-1950's, crowds started to dwindle and by the mid-1960's, Bryant Field was mostly quiet.  Bryant Field stadium was dismantled in 1973.

Today, Bryant Field has been rebuilt and back in the market for baseball.    (Above shows the field under construction; to the left is the finished field at one of the first games)
